Lode Runner is best known for pioneering the concept of level editors.
Coming in contact with guards or falling into pits causes the player to lose one of his five lives and restart the level. Each level is made up of multiple stories that can be reached with ladders. If the player succeeds, a new level is unlocked. The player must progress through different levels and collect gold while avoiding guards.
The series has connections to the Bomberman series. 1983-2017 Lode Runner is a puzzle platformer video game series, with its first game originally released on the Apple II.
